So what are photography hashtags?

A hashtag is a word or an unspaced phrase prefixed with the hash character, #, to form a label. It is a type of metadata tag. Words or phrases in messages on microblogging and social networking services such as Facebook, Google+, Instagram, Twitter, or VK may be tagged by entering # before them,[1] either as they appear in a sentence, e.g., “New artists announced for #SXSW2014 Music Festival”[2] or appended to it. The term hashtag can also refer to the hash symbol itself when used in the context of a hashtag.[3] A hashtag allows grouping of similarly tagged messages, and also allows an electronic search to return all messages that contain it.
Because of its widespread use, the word, hashtag, was added to the Oxford English Dictionary in June 2014.[4][5]

How to use photography hashtags?

You can use hashtags everywhere on social networks. Several ideas: Let say you have made lovely wedding images in New York when posting photo the hashtags could be #wedding #love #photography #NYC (as New York City) and your brand like #photogeek
Another example: let’s say you are a photographer, who owns a blog and wrote a great post- tutorial on your blog How to make HDR images using DSLR, so the tags could be #HDR #DSLR #photography #tutorial #photogeek
One more example: let’s say you want to get more attention, visitors, sales of your service. The message could sound like this.
Next week the first five customers can get a 30% discount for a personal photoshoot in the studio. Get your 50 professionally retouched images. Don’t miss the deal register today… The hashtags could be #discount #photography #portrait #photogeeks.
I would suggest always at the end add your brand hashtag- it may be your company name, it may be your nickname or real name and surname. Never leave a gap between words, the other vise only first will be as a tag. If somebody presses on a specific tag,- will see all the posts/news made with it by you and other persons on the social network. If somebody press on your brand hashtag– will see all post made by you.

Final thoughts- social network marketing is fun if you like it. I hope, after this article, you got a basic idea of how # photography hashtags work on social networks and it will (at least a bit) help you to increase visibility online.
